In a transformative moment for Ethiopia’s logistics sector, Cosmos MTO emerges as one of only three companies awarded a multi-modal transport license by the Ethiopian Maritime Authority. This project tells the story of crafting a brand identity that seamlessly fits into various collateral while capturing the essence of the company’s mission and vision. This is a journey of creating a brand identity with a visual representation that aligns with its forward-thinking approach.

The Brand

Multi-modal transportation involves using multiple modes of transport—such as road, rail, sea, and air—to move goods efficiently from origin to destination. Unlike traditional single-mode logistics, it combines various transport methods into a cohesive system for greater flexibility and optimization.Cosmos MTO is one of three private companies entering Ethiopia’s multi-modal logistics market, recently awarded a license to operate multi-modal transport services sector by Ethiopian Maritime Authority (EMA), as part of the liberalization of the multi-modal sector which was under the monopoly of the Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics (ESL).Awarded in May of this year, Cosmos MTO aims to redefine the logistics landscape, aiming to offer more efficient and dynamic solutions in a market where logistics has historically been equated solely with transport services.

The Challenge

In a market traditionally dominated by a single provider, Cosmos MTO faces the challenge of communicating the extensive scope of multi-modal transport operations without overwhelming the visual identity with multiple transportation modes.The brand must shift the prevailing market perception from basic transport services to a more comprehensive and integrated logistics solution.As a multi-modal transport operator the identity needs to be flexible to be used in variety of brand touch-points staying bold and representative of the company’s vision and commitment from small sized prints to large shipping containers.

The Approach

Convey the brand promise
The design process focused on aligning the brand’s vision with its operational promise: to provide seamless, end-to-end logistics solutions. The logo’s clean and adaptable design avoids literal depictions of transportation modes, instead emphasizing the brand promise through the infinity symbol. This approach ensures a sophisticated and unified brand identity. By showcasing the limitless potential of Cosmos MTO, the branding aims to educate the market and differentiate the company from traditional transport services. The identity is designed to be effective across various platforms, from shipping containers to conference rooms, maintaining a cohesive and impactful presence.
